2012 Collegiate Community Triathlon
Winners Announced   

Thanks to all of you (athletes, Resort staff, volunteers, emergency and law enforcement officials) who participated in the inaugural Collegiate Community Triathlon at Lake Lure's Rumbling Bald Resort on Saturday, Mar. 31.  More than 100 triathletes from 24 states and the District of Columbia competed, and the team spirit was fierce as cheers and encouragement were heard throughout the day!

We are already looking forward to next year's event and, in the meantime, hope you will all join us for the Lake Lure Olympiad races the weekend of Aug. 24-26.

The winners included:

Women's Sprint Winners:
Chelsea Koglmeier (1st place), Hannah Smith (2nd place),
 and Allie Middleton (3rd place) - all from Duke University 
 
Men's Sprint Winners:
Liberty University's David Fritz (1st place), Virginia Tech's Gregory Pfister (2nd place), and Virginia Tech's Quinn Giroux (3rd place)

Women's Draft-Legal Winners:
U.S. Naval Academy's Jessica Hafey (1st place) and Daphne Williams (2nd place), UNC Chapel Hill's Mollie Brewer (3rd place), and Coastal Carolina University's May Lauzon (4th place)
 
Men's Draft Legal:
Naval Academy's David Macfarlane (1st place), Liberty University's Joseph Anderson (2nd place), Virginia Tech's Grayson Cobb (3rd place)

Course Description
Sprint
Swim: 500 meter loop in stunning Lake Lure
Bike: 22K loop through rolling hills and sweeping roads
Run: 5K loop with one challenging hill and a flat, fast finish

Draft‐Legal
Swim: (1K)‐two 500 meter loops with a 20 meter beach run in between
Bike: (30K)‐six 5K laps that feature a short climb, a swooping descent and which pass through transition
Run: (6K)‐ three 2K laps that are flat, fast and pass through transition
