What
Opening Ceremonies kick off an exciting weekend of athletics, competition and family fun, and feature:

Lighting of the Olympiad Torch - Always brings a lump to the throat and a swell of pride as the National Anthem is played!

Tasty Beach Barbecue - All the traditional southern barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers and chips you can eat for very reasonable prices.  Later in the evening, free ice cream sundaes await you!

Spectacular Water Ski Show -
The Lake Lure Ski Club will put on an exciting show with high-flying wakeboard flips, ski pyramids, water ballet, barefoot skiing and more. Come and be wowed!

1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk - A great family event, starting at 6:15 pm, covering a mile-long run through the Resort ending at the Beach. The $10 cost includes a bracelet that will let you enjoy all Standard Events at the Resort and/or the Town Beach on Saturday. 
 

Fireworks - Once the skies have darkened, we'll be treated to an amazing display of pyrotechnics, courtesy of Rumbling Bald Resort! What a great way  set the stage for a full schedule of exciting and fun-filled events on Saturday.

DRAGON BOAT RACES

When
Saturday, August 28 starting at11:00 a.m.  Captains' meeting at 10:00 a.m.

What
Head to head competition with all teams guaranteed at least two races. Registration fee includes all equipment, steersperson, and two 60-minute practice sessions with a coach/steersperson during pre-race week.

Bring back your team from last year or form a new one. Get in on the excitement of the fastest growing team sport in America.

Teams of 10 paddlers, 1 drummer, 2 alternates (optional).  Limited to 16 teams. Depending on makeup of teams, competitive categories may include:

• Youth (ages 12-18)
  
• All Female
• All Male
• Mixed (at least 4 women PADDLERS)
• Master (55 and over)
• Breast Cancer Survivors (at least 6 BCS)

GOLF TOURNAMENT & GOLF SKILLS

Thursday, August 26, starting at 8:00 a.m. shotgun

What
18-hole medal play. Award for individual net, individual gross and 4-person two best ball net team play. Prizes awarded for closest-to-the-pin holes.

$68. ($30 for Olympiad and $38 green fee for non members).

How to Register  
Pick up a registration form at either Bald Mountain or Apple Valley Pro Shop or download a form and mail it along with $30 to HGNO, PO BOX 123, LAKE LURE, NC 28746.  Each individual should register separately.  If playing on a team, indicate captain's name on the form.

PONTOON BOAT CHALLENGE

When
Friday, August 27, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

The church van will pick up people and drive them to the Pontoon Boat Registration area. The Marina parking lot will not be open to traffic. The van will start cruising the various parking areas at 1:45. After the Challenge is over we hope everyone will come to the RBR beach area for the Opening Ceremonies of Olympiad VI.

What
A search for the best poker hand.

• Find the 6 boat houses that have a basket of sealed envelopes on their docks, each containing one playing card.
• Take one envelop from each boat doack and return all 6 to the marina dock.
• Once our event captains ensure that the envelopes have remianed sealed, you open them to determine your best hand.  The card with the red back is your wild card and you can buy up to two additional cards for $10 each to put together the best five cards in your hand.
• Captains are encouraged to decorate their boats within some theme, (see picture above & below).  This is a great way to kick off your evening at the Opening Cerimonies.

TENNIS DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

When
Saturday, August 28, starting at 7:00 a.m. until conclusion of match play

What

Mens’ and Womens’ Doubles (maximum 16 teams each).

• Balls and water are provided.
• Team arriving more than 15 minutes late forfeits match.
• 15-minute warm up
• 40-minute play
• No ad scoring
• Single elimination
• Highest number of games after 40 minutes is winner

$20 per participant. No walk-up registration provided as tournament schedule will be distributed to players before Olympiad begins.

Pickle Ball

When: Friday, August 27^th  - starting at 10am

What: Pickle Ball is one of the fastest growing sports played on an abbreviated tennis court that combines the skills of tennis, racquetball and paddleball.

Who: Mixed Doubles, all ages. If participation is sizeable, we will construct flights

Where: On the tennis courts at Rumbling Bald Resort

Cost: A charity donation of $10 per player

This year we will offer both a 1 Mile and 2 Mile Open Water Swim.

The race will be part of an exciting morning of a sprint triathlon, kayaking, tennis, basketball, swim sprints and miniature golf - something for everyone, athletes and spectators as well.
